— A White House commission, established by President Donald Trump in February, is set to release a comprehensive report today detailing the underlying causes of America’s deteriorating health. The “Make America Healthy Again Commission,” chaired by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., aims to shed light on the factors contributing to the nation’s chronic illness crisis.
The commission, jointly managed by the Department of Health and Human Services and the White House, includes key figures such as Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and senior officials from federal health agencies. Its mandate encompasses investigating chronic illnesses and formulating an action plan to combat childhood diseases, with a strategy document expected in August.
Supporters of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative anticipate the report will reiterate concerns long held by health advocates. Jeff Hutt, former national field director for Kennedy’s presidential campaign and current leader of a group supporting MAHA’s objectives, remarked, “Nobody’s talked about any bombshells coming out or anything like that.” He expects the report to highlight ongoing efforts, including vaccine safety studies, revisions to food safety protocols, and the elimination of certain dyes and petroleum-based additives from the food supply.
A significant focus of the report is the use of pesticides, particularly glyphosate, a chemical employed to expedite crop harvesting. While environmental groups express concerns over human exposure to glyphosate, farm lobbyists caution that critiquing specific agricultural practices could hinder collaboration on health initiatives and jeopardize food production.Hutt reassures stakeholders, stating that Kennedy has already addressed these concerns publicly, indicating that the report will not contain unexpected or alarming content.
Prominent MAHA activist Vani Hari, known for her “Food Babe” blog, suggests the report’s emphasis will be on data dissemination and public awareness rather than immediate policy changes. “Once somebody learns this information, they can’t unlearn it, and it changes their behavior,” she notes. “They make different purchasing decisions.”
The commission’s findings are expected to align with broader concerns about America’s health trajectory. Recent studies indicate a decline in U.S. life expectancy, attributed to factors such as drug overdoses, suicides, and chronic diseases.Additionally, disparities in healthcare access, particularly in rural areas, and the prevalence of “diseases of despair” underscore the urgency of addressing these health challenges.
