Volkswagen Group (VOWG p.DE) will have to recall more than 100,000 plug-in hybrid vehicles worldwide owing to a fire risk, according to a Volkswagen representative.
A total of 42,300 Volkswagen Passat, Golf, Tiguan, and Arteon owners will be alerted. Audi, a Volkswagen brand, is recalling 24,400 vehicles, with Seat and Skoda also affected.
Due to an improperly insulated high-voltage battery, there is a risk of fire in vehicles that connect a conventional combustion engine to an electric drive and are charged through a socket, according to the spokeswoman on Thursday.
According to the German daily Bild, “inadequate latching of the engine design cover might lead to contact with hot parts and, as a result, fire,” and that 16 such occurrences have been reported un Germany.
According to Bild, the recall includes Volkswagen brands VW, Audi, Seat, and Skoda.
